Now there is with D-mannose a natural, gentle means to prevent recurrent bladder inflammation. A specialist explains the effect.
The woman and the bladder – or rather – the bladder inflammation. This is a never-ending story. Nature has willed it so. «The urinary tube of the woman is very short with 2 to 3 cm, which favors the ascent of bacteria from the intestine into the bladder», says private lecturer PD Dr. Daniele Perucchini, urogynäkologe in Zürich.
Since 20 years he dealsäftigt with this topic and runs his own bladder center. «Comes to the fact that the urinaryöhrenöfffnung is in contrast to the man in immediate Näheights to the vaginal entrance and the rectum. ». After the change, the lack of hormones makes the bladder lining even more susceptible to infection. Dr. Perucchini: «Local hormone deficiency is one of the main reasons that bladder infections occur more öfrequently after menopause. Sexual intercourse also seems to promote the incidence of bladder infections » Around half of women suffer from urinary tract infections, which are recurrent. Most often, intestinal bacteria called E. coli are the ¨beltäter.
Treating acute urinary tract infections with antibiotics is routine. But what to do if the next infection comes before the old one has healed properly? Is there an alternative to the administration of antibiotics, which is inevitably associated with the risk of resistance developing? Yes, there is. And it is called D-mannose. This is a simple sugar that is closely related to glucose. Dr. Perucchini has many years of good experience with D-mannose in women with recurrent bladder infections. In his special consultation, he explicitly points out to his patients the possibility of preventing bladder infections in a completely natural and effective way. How does the specialist explain the effect? D-mannose is a sugar that is hardly absorbed when ingested. It is excreted almost unchanged in the urine and thus accumulates in the bladder. There, due to its chemical structure, it attaches to the bacteria and prevents them from adhering to the bladder wall. As a result, the conglomerates of E. coli and D-mannose are excreted with the urine.
Scientifically, this effect is backed up with a study. Dr. Perucchini describes D-mannose as an excellently tolerable way to prevent urinary tract infections, without the risk of developing resistance, and thus as a gentle alternative to the repeated use of antibiotics. However, the urogynecologist emphasizes that antibiotic therapy may still be necessary in the event of severe signs of inflammation and even fever. The simple sugar D-mannose affects neither the calorie balance nor the blood sugar and can also be taken by diabetics after consultation with the doctor.

Are you sick to death of irritating bladder infections and antibiotics? We have two natural remedies, pure D-mannose and kidney and bladder dragées from three medicinal plants that help.
Bladder inflammation is a troublesome story in women. An infection is often followed by the next one – along with a new antibiotic prescription. There are gentle alternatives. One is pure D-mannose. The simple sugar attaches to the bacteria and prevents them from settling in the bladder wall. In one study, mannose has been well studied for preventing bladder infections. Compared with an antibiotic, mannose performed equally well or even better. With no side effects or development of resistance like an antibiotic.
