Bach® flower remedies are becoming increasingly popular for managing emotions. They were developed in the 1930s by Dr Edward Bach, a medical practitioner who believed that healing should be simple and accessible to everyone. These flower essences are used to restore emotional balance and promote well-being. But what exactly are Bach® flowers, how are they used and for whom are they suitable?
Origin and production
Bach® flowers are liquid extracts made from hand-picked wild plants from Dr Bach's garden in England. These extracts are diluted and preserved with an alcoholic solution.
Philosophy
During his research, Dr Bach discovered 38 flowers, each of which is assigned to a basic emotional condition. These 38 flowers are categorised into 7 emotional groups: anxiousness, loneliness, inattention to surroundings, despondency and discouragement, being easily influenced, excessive commitment to others and insecurity. Dr Bach was convinced that emotional harmony was the key to good health. His credo: ‘Treat the person, not the illness, because behind all illness lie our fears, anxieties, desires, likes and dislikes’, is the basis of his philosophy.
How are Bach® flowers used?
The essences are not aimed directly at the illnesses, but at the emotional imbalance that underlies them. According to Edward Bach, the power of each plant is transferred from the plants to people in the form of special vibrations. To date, this mode of action has not been fully clarified medically. However, it is assumed that the individual flowers influence the psyche, whereby negative emotional states can be dispelled.
By supporting a better handling of one's own emotions, the Bach® flowers make it possible to better understand one's own reactions to certain situations and to categorise them accordingly. Bach® flowers can also help to promote a sense of inner peace and maintain or restore inner balance.
Who are Bach® flowers suitable for?
Bach® flowers can be used by anyone. They are ideal for anyone who wants a herbal and holistic approach. There is no risk of overdosing, side effects or interactions.
The drops are also popular for children, as they can offer simple support in the many particularly challenging situations that growing up brings with it. Just think of big events such as starting nursery and school or the arrival of a new sibling. But of course they are also suitable for everyday worries such as a visit to the dentist or an exam.
